how to paint stained glass in watercolor April 11, 2017 My painting "Savior and Stone" depicts the window of a local church in Annville, Pennsylvania. I used a lot of small brushes to paint this large painting. I focused on small areas at a time and used layering and glazing techniques to get a rich tonal value. I felt like I had to work on the bottom portion first and work that up to completion, so that I knew where to go with the rest of the painting. I would never recommend starting a large painting at the bottom, but that is how it started. The pencil sketch was also a tedious process that took a couple hours to complete. I'm not sure why I decided to paint this from the bottom up - - I guess that was just how my mind was working at the time. The folds in the clothing were not easy to paint and I had a difficult time with the figures in the background - - I had a mental block with those. I nearly painted the entire painting before finishing those figures. Finished painting - "Savior and Stone"
